Last Sunday ‘We the People’ on NDTV featured a debate on ‘How far does the media went on Abhishek Aishwarya wedding’. I don’t want to waste my blog space on their over hyped wedding. I just want to highlight one statement that a participant made; he said “Every national newspaper is supposed to be like ‘The Hindu’”. Nowadays every newspaper is entering into the tabloid category. It contains more of gilt and glamour than News. Well you can’t blame the editors or the reporters for it, thereader whom they are targeting enjoys reading it. The Hindu has a long tradition of credibility and they make sure the glamour news goes to the last page. It would be the only Newspaper in the country (please let me know if I am wrong) which did not put the wedding news on the first page. The newspaper gave the news the space it deserves. Well then you cannot blame the other newspaper for putting the news in the first page. The readers whom they are targeting largely enjoys reading the gossip and about the entertainment industry.
The tabloids will feature just gossip and nothing else. It’s up to the reader to choose the News.
The tabloids will feature just gossip and nothing else. It’s up to the reader to choose the News. It’s really funny how newspapers choose their front page news. The Sunday edition of Malayala Manorama featured three headlines each describing either death by accident or murder. One talked about an accident which killed 2, the other was about the Pakistan Coach murder case, the third was about some local murder case.
